Hi, I'm Ian Richards, the webmaster of this site As editor of Support Alert newsletter I hear almost every day of computer disasters. Like the writer who lost his new novel because of a hard disk crash or the small company that went out of business because a virus wiped out all their customer files. And the list goes on and on. Almost all these disasters would have been mere inconveniences had the people involved adequately backed up the data on their PCs. Everyone knows they should backup their data but few actually get around to doing it. This is despite the fact that there are dozens of backup products on the market. In a way, that's part of the problem. With so many products to choose from, how do you decide what's good and what's not? That's why I decided to undertake this series of backup software reviews. To do the reviews, I enlisted the aid of veteran reviewer Jeff Partridge to survey the market and then put the most promising products through a thorough series of tests. My initial intention was to publish the reviews in Support Alert newsletter. However when Jeff showed me what he had done I decided to put the reviews up a dedicated web site where they could be accessed by a broader audience.
In preparing these reviews we tested 18
different Windows backup software products and culled these down to the
best five. Of these only one has been flagged as "Editor's Choice" but
quite frankly the best product is the one that best meets your needs, so
I suggest you read the reviews and make up your own mind. This is
important because for some of the products listed, we get a contribution
from the vendor for sales that originate from this site. This fact does
not effect our recommendations and it certainly should not impact on
yours.
